Great Britain
Victoria gold Proof Sovereign 1853 PR63 Cameo NGC, KM736.1, S-3852D. An immensely popular, and rare Proof Sovereign issued exclusively as part of the enigmatic 1853 Proof Set. This set, unlike any other 19th century set (besides the 1821), included no denomination greater than a Sovereign; indeed, it seems limited to solely those coins common in everyday circulation. This specimen exhibits bright mirror fields with subdued die polish lines, elegantly framing the frosted young portrait of Victoria; the planchet is colored a light lemon-gold, the overall eye-appeal very strong. An essential addition to the comprehensive collection of British Sovereigns, and a truly beautiful Proof.
