Vittorio Emanuele III gold 100 Lire 1936-R Anno XIV MS65 NGC, Rome mint, KM83, Fr035, Pag-650. Commemorating the Conquest of Ethiopia and the Expanding Italian Sphere of Influence. Obv. Bare head right. Rev. Roman soldier advancing left, holding victoriola and fasces over shoulder. From a mintage of just 812 pieces, this lustrous specimen represents one of the final fascist gold issues of Italy and in an exceptional gem-level grade. Definitively struck, the obverse exhibits abundant cartwheel luster with a light red tone, whilst the reverse is decidedly prooflike with glossy fields. Just one example is certified higher in NGC's database, rendering this offering near the ceiling of quality for the type. The last example we handled, an MS64 NGC, realized an impressive $11,400 at our January 2018 NYINC sale, and we anticipate even greater interest for this superlative specimen of perpetual popularity.
