Japan
Netherlands East Indies. Japanese Occupation tin alloy Proof 10 Sen NE 2603 (1943) PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM-Y66. Struck for use in Japan-occupied Netherland East Indies, and a rare survivor from an almost entirely remelted issue. Despite the insert listing the metal as 'tin alloy', the appearance and finish of this Proof is identical to the previous two lots, and leads one to believe that it is in fact aluminium also. This 10-Sen piece completes the Proof of Record "set" with the previous two lots, all of which are potentially unique; this example has earned its 'ultra cameo' designation, fields of flawless mirrors with matte devices atop. An extreme rarity of the modern Japanese series.
