Mexico
Philip V gold 4 Escudos 1742 Mo-MF MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM135, Cal-248. Tied for finest graded of the type with just one other example at NGC, this is by far one of the rarest date 4 Escudos of the entire Mexican numismatic series. Simply stunning, this coin is so magnificently well-made as to appear Pattern-like; the peripheries positively blaze with yellow light, being of such gloss and reflectivity. The centers dull slightly and develop a light peach tone, the matte effect providing a pleasing contrast to the lustrous rings surrounding. The crispness of strike, the production quality and the preservation, all coalesce to present a coin of fantastic visual appeal and extreme conditional rarity. A veritable colonial treasure of the highest regard.
