Netherlands
Kingdom of Holland. Louis Napoleon 2-1/2 Gulden 1808 MS61 NGC, KM32, Dav-229. Struck during the brief period of Napoleonic rule in Holland where Napoleon's brother Louis was installed as king. A classic rarity, this enchanting piece has been struck up to give the fields a prooflike reflectivity, highly glossy and of great depth. Louis's portrait is pleasing and features almost complete detail to the high points of his hair, with a similar crispness of strike notable on the reverse shield and in the legends. A difficult piece to upgrade upon in terms of eye appeal and quality, scarcely found in Mint State.
