Republic bronze Pattern "Burgers" Pond 1874 AU55 NGC, KM-Pn19, Hern-B7/6. Short coarse beard, reeded edge, coin axis. An exceedingly rare offering as only a handful of these patterns are known to exist. Struck at the Heaton Mint in Birmingham, England prior to the final production of the gold incarnations, this present specimen is considerably handsome with a balanced cocoa tone throughout, well defined features for the technical designation, and an impressive glassy shine within the fields. A recent example we offered in 2013 achieved an impressive $23,500 all in (Auction 3024, Lot #25486).
