Republic gold "Single Shaft" Pond 1892 AU58 NGC, Berlin mint, KM10.2, Hern-Z45. Obv. Bust of Paul Kruger left. Rev. Eagle over coat-of-arms with date and value above. The far rarer of the two 1892 Pond varieties and the rarest of the regular issue Zar Ponds. Commensurate with the grade we see some minor wear to the highest points, but otherwise this example retains excellent detail with a gorgeous russet tone entering the peripheries and cloaking the devices. The last AU58 example of this variety we handled was offered at our August 2016 ANA sale where it realized $13,500 hammer, and surely this identically graded visually appealing rarity will attract similar bidder excitement.
