Ancients
SELEUCID KINGDOM. Antiochus III the Great (222-187 BC). AR tetradrachm (30mm, 17.09 gm, 2h). NGC Choice XF★ 5/5 - 4/5. Uncertain Mint. Diademed head of Antiochus III right, somewhat idealized with assertive nose, tightly sculpted hair with slightly receding bangs, unruly diadem ties protruding abruptly in crude and highly unusual style / BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ANTI-OXOY, Apollo seated left on omphalus, testing arrow in right hand, left hand on grounded bow right behind, M in outer left field, θ in inner right field directly over the bow string.

This specimen does not appear to precisely match any mint in Seleucid Coins. The portrait is exceptionally fine with the hair is expertly coiffured. The style is reminiscent of the ΔΙ mint but the ties are like none this cataloger has seen and the control marks are seemingly unpublished and unusual. Certainly an enigmatic coin and worth further study and publication.
