SASANIAN KINGDOM. Khusrau IV (AD 631-637?). AR drachm (32mm, 3.70 gm, 3h). AU. Mint AYLAN (Hulwan in Media), Regnal Year 2. Bust of king in style of later coins of Khusrau II / Fire altar between attendants; star to left and crescent to right of flames. The reverse is the late Khusrau II design and style. Rare.
Nothing is known about this king who seems to have ruled during the period of turbulence following the death of Ardashir III. See H.M. Malek, 'Late Sasanian coinage in the collection of the Muzeh Melli Iran', Numismatic Chronicle 2013, fig. 24, p. 492 for a similar coin in the Johnson collection, possibly struck from the same dies.
