KAROLVS x DI x GR | FRANCORVM RЄX, figure of the king standing facing beneath a Gothic dais, sword in left hand, scepter surmounted by Hand of Justice in right, lis to either side / +XPC * VIИCIT * XPC * RЄGИAT * XPC * IИPЄRAT, cross fleury within polylobe, crowns and lis in alternate angles and lis in arches. Issued from 20 April 1365. A paragon of high medieval French monetary style, some characteristic doubling throughout the obverse design, yet absent from the reverse, which appears virtually as struck and prolific with die polish lines.
