William I the Conqueror (1066-1087) Penny ND (c. 1083-1086) AU55 NGC, London mint, Ielfwi as moneyer, Paxs type, 1.38gm, S-1257, N-850 (mint-moneyer combination unlisted). +ǷILLELM RIEX, crowned, diademed bust of William facing, cross-type scepter in left hand / +IEǷI ON LVNDNE, cross pattee, annulet containing one letter of the word PAXS in each angle. Well-struck with a bold portrait of the king and relatively clear legends. While North records the moneyer Ielfwi at Cardiff, he makes no mention of a man of the same name striking coins at London, though another example appeared in WAG Online oHG Auction #55 (12 July 2015, Lot 171).
