Stephen (1135-54) Penny ND AU55 NGC, Wilton mint, Tomas as moneyer, 'Watford' type, 1.21gm, S-1278, North-873. Pennies of Stephen are notorious for their poor production, often omitting either the majority of the legends or weak to the centers. Accordingly, the present offering is all-the-more remarkable for its excellent portrait of the King and admirably complete legends, the planchet with abundant original luster and some minor discoloration. A truly unusual Penny for its high quality and admirable Almost Uncirculated grade.
