Louis I (1342-82) gold Ducat (Goldgulden) ND AU50 ANACS, Husz-513, CNH-63. +LODOVICVS: DЄI: GRACIA: RЄX, arms of Hungary and Anjou within sexfoil / • + S IOHA | ИИES B (crown) •, standing facing figure of St. John the Baptist; severed head of a saracen by left foot. A highly pleasing type clearly in transition between the earlier Florin-inspired goldgulden and the subsequent, fully Hungarian designs. The the legends at points appear rather mushy, they nonetheless remain legible and the finer points of the devices well-rendered.
