Mughal Empire. Aurangzeb Alamgir gold Mohur (AH 1088) Year 21 (1696/7) UNC Details (Edge Damage) NGC, Azimbad mint, cf. KM315.12 (unlisted mint-date combination). Perfectly emblematic of the high-relief style so beautifully expressed in Mughal coins, this apparently elusive mint--recording to have only struck mohurs for two years of Aurangzeb's reign--does not appear to be recorded for this date in SAC, which mentions coins only struck there AH 1117 Year 50 and AH 1118 Year 5. Most desirable and rare as such, the edge damage noted on the holder referring to two small cuts around 12 o'clock.
