French Colony copper-nickel Essai Franc 1(897) MS63 NGC, KM-E4, Lec-10a. An unfinished date with only a the first "1" of the date, reeded edge. Obv. Bust left of Napoleon's first wife, Josephine. Rev. Value in wreath with partial date "1" below. Bright luster, with silvery-gray patina. The fields have a brilliant satiny glow, with minor spotting and a flan flaw on Josephine's shawl. An extremely rare pattern issue. This is the only piece we have seen and the only one certified by NGC and PCGS combined.
