CANADA. Bank of Upper Canada. 1 Dollar, 1845-55. CH-770-14-20. PMG Very Fine 25.
An extremely rare Bank of Upper Canada 1 Dollar note that the Charlton Book lists as "Institutional Collections Only" with only two known at the time of the book's publishing. This issue has Toronto engraved above the image of St. George defeating the dragon on the bottom center. "ONE" protector above 'Toronto' in very bold brick red. Vignettes include a seated lion in oval at left, and a woman and dog in the oval at right. At upper center below the bank name is a seated "Commerce" depicted as an allegorical woman.

The note is uniface, but the back shows the very bold printing of the reverse side of the front's "ONE" overprint. PMG comments "Toned" which is likely a result of the age of the paper, and the minor amounts of circulation. Manuscript dates and signatures seen on the face. PMG Very Fine 25.

Estimate: $8000.00- $12000.00
