STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. Government of the Straits Settlements. 100 Dollars, 1916. P-5. PMG Very Fine 20 Net. Stained.
Block B/1. An extremely scarce design in any state of preservation, and any date considered, with this 1916 date being simply rare. The note is shown in a large format with an open design with a profile vignette of KGV at top center with prowling tiger below. Four large serial numbers at the corners along with printed date and signatures. Twin watermark fields with elephants seen facing opposite directions. This is only the second time we have handled this date and the present example is the finer of the pair. That other was sold in our August 2017 Hong Kong sale where it saw spirited bidding and ultimately sold for $38,240 against a $20,000 to $25,000 estimate. PMG has graded just six notes on the catalog number and none of them are seen beyond the Very Fine grade range. A great opportunity to secure this rare type and a note that will be a highlight within any collection it enters. PMG Very Fine 20 Net. Stained.

Estimate: $20000.00- $30000.00
