A United States First Mortgage bond signed by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. 1500 bonds were issued by Santa Anna in 1866, who was in desperate need of money at the time. Santa Anna led the assault on the Alamo in 1836, and also defeated the Spanish at the Battle of Tampico, when Spain tried to reconquer Mexico. This bond shows beautifully embossed seals, as well as three vignettes featuring Santa Anna at center, the Palace of Turbaco at top, and the Palace of St. Thomas at bottom. In Choice Very Fine condition, with edge wear as well as discoloration along the edges noticed by the cataloger on this historic bond. Choice Very Fine.
