COLOMBIA. 8 Escudos, 1758-PN J. Popayan Mint. Ferdinand VI (1746-59). PCGS Genuine--Scratch, VF Details Gold Shield.
Restrepo-26.2; Fr-16; KM-32.2. The debut milled onza from Popayan. Nice deep orange gold with a few light laminations, reflective of the novelty of this sort of prepared planchet. A few are seen in the obverse field, a more extensive one stretches from the shield to the assayer mark on the reverse. A single thin hairline scratch is present on the portrait, running nearly vertically. This remains a handsome example of an historic issue.
From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins.
Ex: Hans M.F. Schulman, March 1969.
Estimate: $1250.00- $2500.00
