GERMANY. Augsburg. Ducat, 1742-IT. Charles VII The Pretender (1742-45). NGC AU-58.
Fr-96; KM-147. An appropriately graded example of this attractively designed Ducat which maintains charming definition over both sides with vibrant luster still visible in the fields. Seldom seen as a type, the last appearance at major auction occurred in September 2017, when a slightly finer example (ungraded, but seeming lower Mint State) hammered for €3800 in a Kunker auction.

This Ducat was issued on behalf of Charles Albert of Bavaria, the last non-Hapsburg to contend for the increasingly worthless imperial throne. Frederick the Great used his candidature as a pretext to invade and seize the Austrian province of Silesia.

From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II.

Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
