GERMANY. Brandenburg. Taler, 1634. Konigsberg Mint. Georg Wilhelm (1619-40). NGC EF-45.
Dav-6141; KM-125. The Standard Catalog of World Coins reports a mintage of 34,000 for 1633-35. Superior to most examples seen with a nice strike, original gray tone over both sides and none of the planchet irregularities that often accompany the type.

Georg Wilhelm was one of the least successful rulers of Brandenburg-Prussia. Unable to stay neutral in the Thirty Years War, he saw his domain pillaged and ravaged by troops from both sides. He spent the second half of his reign in the refuge of East Prussia, where this scarce type was struck 1627-35.

From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II.

Ex: Kunker Auction, lot 4212, March 2011 at 2,400 Euros.

Estimate: $1200.00- $1700.00
