GERMANY. Brandenburg. Ambassadorial Presentation Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1663). Friedrich Wilhelm (1640-88). PCGS SP-58 Gold Shield.
73 mm. Brockmann-275; Menadier-141; North-35; Oelrichs-80. By C. Melchior and J. Hohn. Bare headed armored bust of Friedrich Wilhelm facing half right within a very ornate crowned and angel bedecked floral cartouche. Inscription: "FRIDERICHUS WILHELMUS D.G. MARCH BRAND S R I ARCHICAM ET P ELECT MAGD PRIUS IUL CLIV MONT" around; Reverse: Large crowned eagle, displayed, with the shields of the 24 districts of Brandenburg on its wings. Inscription around: "STET POM CAS VAND IN SIL CROS ET CAR DUX BURG NOR PR HALB ET MIND COM MARCH ET RAV DN, IN RAVE".

A very impressive medallion which was made to be presented to Ambassadors presenting themselves at Fredrich Willhelm's Court in the early 1660's. This example especially attractive in medium silver gray with areas of multi-color iridescence that glow under oblique lighting conditions.
