GERMANY. Rhenish Confederation. Taler, 1809-CB. Regensburg Mint. NGC MS-63.

Premium quality for the type with smooth, lustrous fields, boldly achieved detail throughout the designs and pale rose-hued tone on both sides; although not immediately obvious, traces of strike doubling also appear on the reverse. One of three different talers issued during this short-lived period.

Karl Theodor von Dalberg was Prince-Archbishop of Regensburg, Arch-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire, Bishop of Constance and Worms, Prince-Primate of the Confederation of the Rhine and Grand Duke of Frankfurt. He attempted to preserve his own status and the integrity of Germany by toadying to Napoleon, for which he was rewarded by being made head of Napoleon's puppet Confederation of the Rhine.

Estimate: $1200.00- $1500.00
