GERMANY. Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Taler, 1817. NGC MS-62.
Dav-832; KM-153.1. "EIN SPECIES * THALER" edge lettering variety. Distinctively designed with bold detail through Ernst's portrait as well as the reverse shield and noteworthy reflective contrast in the fields. Light tone blue and gold tone that is mostly nestled around the legends adds a further touch of character to this already impressive piece.

Ernst of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld traded his domain of Saalfeld for Gotha and became the first duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (1826-44). His son, Albert, married queen Victoria and is Elizabeth II's great-great-grandfather.

From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
