GREAT BRITAIN. Broad of 20 Shillings, 1656. Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector (1649-60). PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield.
S-3225; KM-Pn25; Fr-273; North-2744. By Thomas Simon. Although often referred to as a pattern, the Standard Catalogue of British Coins states that there is nothing to suggest that the type was not intended for circulation. This piece, being one that did briefly circulate, retains noteworthy charm, showcasing a nice strike and only a few small marks, including one to the right of the shield on the reverse. Tone adds additional appeal, with delicate orange highlights around the obverse designs and reverse coloration that becomes more vibrant with the addition of reddish hues. All considered, an entirely collectible example of this historically important gold issue.
Estimate: $15000.00- $20000.00
