GREAT BRITAIN. Bombardment of Algiers Silver Medal, 1816. PCGS SP-63 Gold Shield.
50 mm. Eimer-1084; BHM-923. By T. Wyon, Junior and Senior. Splendid, laureate, medal bedecked portrait bust of the soon-to-be King George IV. Inscription: "TO TAME THE PROUD THE FETTER'D SLAVE TO FREE / THESE ARE IMPERIAL ARTS AND WORTHY THEE" above. "PRINCE GEORGE REGENT" below the bust; Reverse: intricately detailed view of the bombardment. Inscription in exergue: "ALGIERS BOMBARDED / ITS FLEETS DESTROYED / & CHRISTIAN SLAVERY / EXTINGUISHED. AUG 27 1816 / EXMOUTH". Handsome pewter-gray finish with the devices and legends haloed in slightly darker tones.
