NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. Ducaton (Silver Rider), 1790. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield.
Dav-1832; KM-92.1; Delm-1031. With the exception of colonial Spain, few countries made as much of an improvement in the quality of their coinage during the course of 18th century than the Netherlands. Beginning with truly crude coinage and ending the century with the high quality seen here was quite an accomplishment. The craftsmanship for this example is remarkable, with crisply detailed designs, bountiful sparkling luster in the field and lovely golden amber accent tone. Tied with two other examples at this numeric grade with just one example certified finer (MS-64).
