Dav-1847; Delm-976a. 55.71 grams. Struck on a double-thick planchet with single ducat dies. Immaculate near-Gem quality for this hefty issue, showcasing pinpoint detail in the central standing knight and reverse shield designs that extends to fully crisp legends on both sides. In the fields, exceptional radiance exists, with metal flow lines from the strike creating a sparkling appearance. Very few marks on both sides help to confirm the grade, with a single planchet void in the field beneath the 4 in the date perhaps preventing MS-65 certification. As it is, the single finest certified for this Davenport number at NGC or PCGS and certainly among the finest that exist. Unquestionably an offering that should be of the utmost importance for collectors of conditionally elite European rarities.
