PHILIPPINES. Barilla, 1766. Manila Mint. Charles III (1759-88). PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details Gold Shield.
KM-1; Basso-4; Cal-Type 192 #1869. Our first offering since 2009 (Ponterio CICF Auction # 149 April 24, 2009 lot # 3335, slightly rough surfaces, VERY FINE, where it hammered for $1,475-). Aldo Basso suggests that the "BA" monogram undoubtedly signifies the word Barrilla. And that there is a chance that it was derived from the 1733 and 1743 Barrillas. A VERY RARE type in above average condition sure to excite even the most advanced of collectors. The details designation is due to slightly granular surfaces which is very common on early Philippines copper issues. Attractive patina with a nice look.
From the Ray Czahor Collection.
Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
