PHILIPPINES. 8 Reales, ND (Authorized October 2, 1832, commencing October 5, 1832, officially ending December 20, 1834). PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, AU Details Gold Shield.
KM-63; Basso-41; cf.PNM#6-28; cf.PNM#16-78. Type V countermark crowned F.7.0 within circle. Countermarked on a 1793-FM Mexico 8 Reales. VERY RARE in this state of preservation. Countermark sharply applied with clear bold details. Characteristics of this punch include the beginning of a die crack at eleven o'clock, small protruding crack from the center of right arm of cross, the seven of the ordinal has a curved point at upper right. The characteristic on the reverse which solidifies authenticity is a small raised curved area which shows up throughout the series appearing sometime during the production of the F.7.o issues showing up in various positions until the end of the countermarking process in 1837. A magnificent lustrous example with light attractive tone. As a whole to find a Philippines countermarked coin in Extremely Fine or better is quite difficult, but to find an Almost Uncirculated example is a real treat. One small well placed chopmark on the reverse in the upper left quadrant of the shield. Countermark AU Details; Host coin
