PHILIPPINES. Obverse and Reverse Lead Die Trials, 1859. Possibly Paris Mint. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
cf.KM-Pn12; cf.Basso-77; cf.Cal-pg.801. 2 pieces in set. EXTREMELY RARE and probably UNIQUE. Obverse and reverse lead die trials for 2 Centavos. Basso suggests that these were produced at the Paris mint. This makes sense because other patterns from the same date range and series were also produced at the Paris Mint. Both have been to PCGS and were given the "Authenticity Unvarifiable" designation. Close inspection is advised and will reward the diligent bidder. Both are sharply struck on slightly wavy irregular planchets. Each exhibits attractive glossy dark patina with areas of powdery oxidation. An interesting pair certain to add new depth the next collection it enters. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS.
From the Ray Czahor Collection.
