POLAND. Taler, 1642-GG-BS. Vladyslaw IV Vaza (1632-48). NGC AU-55.
Gum-1553; Dav-4329; KM-62. Premium quality for this RARE type, displaying uncommon boldness over the designs on both sides and eye catching brightness that results from strong luster and minimal toning. Presently the second finest graded example of this type with a single NGC-certified AU-58 being the only higher graded example seen by NGC or PCGS.

Largely considered a successful King, Vladyslaw is known to have successfully defended Poland against foreign adversaries during his reign and is credited with the modernization of the country's armies. Equally notable however was his influence on the arts in Poland. A significant consumer of theater and music, he sponsored many musicians and built the first amphitheater in the palace as well as the first theater in Poland. He also amassed a significant collection of art during his reign with a focus on Italian and Baroque style. Famous contemporaries with which Vladyslaw is known to have met or corresponded with are scientific revolutionary Galileo Galilei and influential artist Peter Paul Rubens.

From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II.

Estimate: $2000.00- $4000.00
