KM-437.3; Gomes-A6.44.03. Type III countermark "S00" on reverse of 400 Reis originally issued under John IV (1640-56) at the Porto Mint. RARE in this state of preservation. An unusually nice example on a large planchet with nearly complete full legends and devices, minimal doubling mentioned for accuracy. Countermark is well applied, clear and bold. Even gun metal gray toning. An outstanding example of this usually well worn issue.
