Ivan IV (Ioann III) was the heir apparent upon birth, and was proclaimed emperor in 1740. Within a year he was overthrown by Elizabeth and imprisoned thereafter. He was eventually killed by his guards during a melee intended to free him from prison at the age of 23 in 1764. The piece up for bid is a solid, problem free circulated piece with even gray toning.
