SOUTH AFRICA. Orange Free State. Pattern Penny Struck in Bronze, 1888. NGC PROOF-66 RB.
Bruce-Pn7; Hern-O8. Finest graded at NGC for the "RB" designation, and one of only two pieces in the series grading at this altitude at NGC the other is graded Proof-66 RD. Hern speculates that all of the patterns sharing this design were struck in Berlin. Sharply struck with glossy, flashy luster. Light lavender over copper obverse toning, with strong pleasing aqua toning on the reverse. A tremendous eye catching example sure to serious competition from advanced collectors.
