SWITZERLAND. Lucerne. 20 Ducat, 1745. NGC AU-58.
Fr-unlisted; Forrer-I:303. 71.3 grams. By Jakob Brupacher. Obverse: Crowned cantonal arms supported by wildmen, "DOMINVS ILLVMINATIO MEA"(translated: God is my Light) around; Reverse: Angel accompanies Madonna and child in the clouds over an elaborate view of city and river, "LVCERNA PEDIBVS MEIS" (translated: "Lucerne is under My Feet") around. A massive issue, boldly stamped with raised edges and stunningly engraved in artistic style, with amazing intricacy appearing in both the wildmen-supported-arms motif as well as busy city-view reverse. While present, the appearance of light handling is an afterthought on the surfaces, with no instance deterring the appeal. Truly a magnificent creation, perhaps struck for a significant dignitary, as the wealth it signifies is immense. As far as we know, entirely without duplication as well, making this a prime candidate for an elite cabinet of Swiss gold or multiple ducat issues. Without question, a top highlight of the sale.

Ex: Roman Abt Collection (Adolf Hess - Lucerne) 5/1936, lot 78.

Estimate: $40000.00- $60000.00
