DC-19s $500 1911 PCGS Very Choice New 64. The $500 and $1000 issues of 1911 are the most coveted of Canadian notes. Regular issue examples were printed and issued in very limited quantities from 1911 through 1924. To date, just three issued $500s are known to collectors, the last of which set a record for a Canadian banknote in our 2008 Long Beach auction when it realized $322,000. Specimen printings for the early Dominion issues were printed in minuscule numbers with around the same number of surviving examples as the issued examples. Queen Mary graces the center of this note, with a DOMINION of CANADA rocker above and flanked by lathe work and 500 on either side. On back, the $ sign is prominently featured at center behind the 500 denomination. As with nearly all early Canadian specimens, this note was once mounted, garnering comments from PCGS. In the top margin is "Item No 6223" with SPECIMEN in bold red in the signature line, and (4) POCs. Specimens like this boast the crisp, original printing and paper as originally intended, something that is not attainable for a regular issue rarity like this.
