South Africa Siege of Mafeking 1 Pound 1900 Pick S655a PMG Very Fine 30 Net. The rarest of all Mafeking Siege issues. These notes were printed with a "blueprint" process, and features a quite detailed and enjoyable vignette of Commander Baden-Powell, what might be the famous Mafeking Gun, Union Jack, soldiers, and civilians. It is rumored that Baden-Powell, the father of the Boy Scouts, got into trouble for not including the sitting monarch, Queen Victoria, but rather a picture of himself. Interestingly, as these were considered to be private checks, an embossed revenue seal from Bechuanaland is also seen. Handsigned with serial number 199, and to be redeemed at the Standard Bank in Mafeking. The note has been repaired with a few pinholes, but this does not take away at all from its rarity, and great story. HID08701242017
