Thailand Government of Thailand 1000 Baht ND (1944) Pick 53s1 Specimen PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. Even though Thailand was officially neutral in World War II, it was under the heavy influence of the Empire of Japan. As a result, Japan printed a few series of banknotes for Thailand during that time, imitating the designs of previous Thomas De La Rue notes, but with key Japanese features such as the serial number fonts, paper, and intaglio. This example is the highest denomination of the 1944 series, and printed with excellent quality. King Rama VIII (who during World War II was in Switzerland) and the Chakri and Dusit Maha Throne Halls are featured on the face, with a view of the Royal Palace in Bangkok on the back. In our ANA auction last August, an identically graded example fetched $7,200. From the Feeling Good Collection HID08701242017

Estimate: 5000-7000 USD
