St. John's, NF- Government of Newfoundland $1 1920 Ch. NF-12d PMG Very Fine 20. The Newfoundland Treasury Notes of 1920 were issued to deal with a shortage of silver coin (precipitated, as with Charlton notes, by the withdrawal of the cash notes) at a time when the price of silver was very high on world markets. By 1939, about 99% of the total amount of these notes printed had been redeemed and destroyed. This moderately circulated and well margined example has a teller stamp from the Union Bank of Scotland on its back. HID08701242017
