Uncertain mint in Macedon(?), possibly Amphipolis or Philippi(?), Æ12. Circa 3rd - 2nd century BC. Facing bukranion with twisted horn; grape bunch to lower right / Tripod. Apparently unpublished. 1.95g, 16mm, 8h.
Near Very Fine. Seemingly unpublished.
From the inventory of a UK dealer.
The bukranion with twisted horn is known as a rare symbol on posthumous tetradrachms of Alexander III 'the Great' from the mint of Amphipolis, where the grape bunch can also be found on issues of Philip II, Alexander III and Antipater. The tripod also features as the reverse type on a very rare bronze of Philippi (cf. SNG Copenhagen 298-9).
