The obverse inscription of this coin proudly displays the title AYTONOMOΣ to indicate the independent status granted to the city of Termessos by Rome in 71 BC. Termessos was one of only three cities (the others being Athens and Chios) to proclaim their independence by never striking coins with imperial portraits.
