Antoninus Pius Æ As. Rome (or mint in Britain?), AD 154-155. ANTONIN[VS AVG PIVS P] P TR P XVIII, laureate head right / [B]RITANNIA [C]OS IIII, Britannia seated left on rock, resting her head on her right hand, and resting her left on rock; round shield and vexillum in background. RIC 934; BMCRE 1971; SCBC 646. 10.51g, 25mm, 11h.

Near Very Fine. Rare.

From the inventory of a UK dealer.

Although of a style suggestive of having been struck in Rome, or at the least made with dies brought from Rome, the significant quantities of finds made in Britain have led to some debate as to the mint location for this issue, with some suggesting a local source.
