The Scottish clan Murray held the title Duke of Atholl, an area in the Scottish Highlands. As a result of the 1764 death of his uncle and his marriage to his daughter, he had sovereignty over the Isle of Man. He sold this sovereignty to the British Treasury in 1765. (BHM)
