ATTICA. Athens. Circa 165-42 B.C. AR tetradrachm. 16.89 gm. 30 mm. New style coinage. Menedemos, Epigenes, and Nikogenes magistrates. Struck 135/134 B.C. Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos right wearing single-pendant earring, necklace, and triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with protomes of four horses above the visor, a Pegasos in flight right above the raised earpiece / Owl standing right on amphora, head facing; A-ΘE above ME-NEΔ / EΠI / ΓENO / ΝΙΚOΓ / ΝΕ (magistrates names) flanking, Asklepios holding serpent-entwined staff to left, Θ on amphora, ME below; all within wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Good Very Fine; fresh surfaces; attractive multihued toning. Well centered and well struck on a broad flan.
