Julia Maesa. Augusta, 218-224/5. AR denarius. 3.01 gm. 19 mm. Grandmother of Elagabalus. Rome mint. Struck A.D. 218-220. Her draped bust right; IVLIA MAESA AVG / Juno, veiled, standing facing, head left, holding patera and scepter; IVNO. RIC IV.2 254. RSC 16. Extremely Fine; rich old iridescent toning; some flan faults/double striking (possibly a restruck brockage?) on the reverse, but crisply struck the second time. Particularly lifelike portrait showing her as an aged woman.
