Allan Louis Neville Jay (b. 1931), competed first for Australia and then for the United Kingdom; five-time-Olympian foil and épée fencer and world champion; winner of two silver medals in Rome in 1960 and Great Britain's flag bearer in the 1964 Olympic Games. After Auckland he participated in a further nine Commonwealth Games representing the England. He participated in the Maccabiah Games in 1953 and 1957 and was elected to the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1985. The Auckland Empire Games was the fourth and the first post-war British Empire Games. A total of 590 athletes represented 12 nations at a total of 87 events.
