CILICIA, Mallos. Circa 440-390 BC. AR Stater (19.5mm, 9.98 g, 12h). Winged male figure advancing right, holding solar disk before him with both hands / Swan standing left, wings folded, uncertain object (fish?) in field before, ankh symbol to lower rifht. Casabonne Group 4; SNG BN 379-380 variant. VF, toned, somewhat granular surfaces.

From a Bay Area collection, purchased from Tom Cederlind, 27 November 2001.

An unusual variety; the fabric would seem to suggest that the swan is on the obverse and the winged figure on the reverse, which is opposite of the usual arrangement on this series. The object in the field to the left of the swan is also rather ill-defined (although it is also rather amorphous in the plate specimens of SNG BN 379 and 380). Possibly a contemporary imitation?
