Anonymous. Circa 214 BC. Æ Semuncia (17.5mm, 3.61 g, 12h). Corn-ear (first) series. Sicily mint. Draped bust of Mercury right, wearing winged petasus / Prow of galley right; ROMA above. Cf. Crawford 42/5; Sydenham –; Type as RBW 148; Russo, Essays Hersh pl. 18, no. 36. VF, dark green to black patina with traces of red.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from Michael Brandt, 2014.

See previous note on the classification of the corn-ear and without corn-ear RRC 42/72 bronzes. In contrast to the prior coin, this semuncia is struck on an especially thick flan, but probably around the same time and from the same mint as the prior coin. [Andrew McCabe]
