Late Roman AR Wedding Ring Bezel. Circa 5th century AD(?). Crowned and draped facing male and female busts to left and right respectively, the female also wearing pendilia; S (retrograde) between their heads, uncertain inscription (ΔHΛI?) retrograde below / Blank surface, which retains evidence of attachment to ring. 0.71g, 9mm.
Condition as seen.
From a private North American collection.
An attractive and interesting piece not least because, when used as a seal matrix, in the image that is produced the lady is shown to the left of the gentleman, the traditional position of greater importance.
